Fiddlehead Fern
The fiddlehead fern is not a particular type of fern; it is simply any type of young fern that has been harvested whilst its shoots are still tightly coiled. This provides a small, tender vegetable that can be steamed, blanched, stir-fried, sautéed or added raw to salads. They have a satisfyingly chewy texture with a flavour that is somewhat similar to a combination of asparagus, French beans and mushrooms.
