Parasol Mushrooms
The parasol mushroom (Macrolepiota procera) is an attractive looking fungus found in open heathy woods, clifftops or sandy, heathy open ground. As its name suggests, it looks somewhat like a shaggy-topped umbrella or parasol, and can grow up to 40 cm (15 in) tall. It has a cream coloured cap up to 40 cm (15 in) in diameter, with a chocolate-brown spot in the centre that is leathery to the touch. It has a pungent, nutty, meaty smell, which some people may find a little strong.

Beginners must take care when collecting this variety, since it can bear a resemblance to several poisonous mushrooms. Some people also display an allergic reaction when trying this mushroom for the first time.
