Horn of Plenty

Also known as the Black Trumpet or the Trompette des Morts, the Horn of Plenty (Craterellus cornucopioides) is a small, dark, funnel-shaped mushroom. The cap is 2.5-8 cm (1-3 in) long, and greyish-brown in dry weather, turning a deep brown to black when the weather is damp.

It has a sweet, fragrant odour and a strong, earthy flavour, and tastes particularly good when gently fried in butter with garlic and parsley. Once fried, they can be eaten as they are or added to omelettes or creamy sauces.
