Tomatillos
The tomatillo is related to the Cape gooseberry and like its relative, is surrounded by a paper-like husk. It is a small, green fruit, firm in texture, with a flavour like that of a tart apple or plum. Tomatillos becomes less tart when they are cooked, becoming slightly sweet, with a mild lemon flavour.

They are much used in Mexican cookery, for example in meat stews and green molé sauces. When raw, they may be blended with peppers, garlic, onion and chillies to make sauces and salsas.
