Sweet Cicely

Sweet cicely (Myrrhis odorata) - also known as anise chervil - is a tall perennial herb with fine, feathery leaves. Both the stem and the leaves may be used in salads or as part of a bouquet garni, providing a fragrant and sugary flavour somewhat similar to anise or liquorice. It is particularly popular in Scandinavia as it is tolerant to cold weather and grows almost all year round. It is commonly used to flavour stewed fruits and may be used as a substitute for sugar in sweet dishes.
