Guavas

The guava is an oval or pear-shaped fruit, ranging in size from a small walnut to a large apple. Its fragrant, juicy flesh can be either pale yellow or salmon-coloured, with a sweet flavour similar in taste to pineapple, banana or strawberries. Containing five times the amount of vitamin C as an orange, the entire fruit may be eaten, complete with its grainy skin and seeds.

Guavas are delicious when eaten fresh with other fruit such as pineapple, and may be juiced to make a refreshing drink. They may also be served puréed or baked, or made into jellies or preserves to serve with meat or game as an alternative to redcurrant jelly. Guava jelly is also delicious when spread on hot toast.
