Damsons

The damson is a small, oval shaped plum, with dark blue to indigo skin and smooth, yellow-green flesh. First cultivated in the area around the ancient city of Damascus, capital of modern-day Syria, they were introduced into England by the Romans.

Damsons may be harvested in late August to September. Their skins are heavily acidic and give the fruit a lovely tart flavour, making them perfect for making jams, pies and puddings.
