Pecan Nuts

Related to the walnut, the pecan is native to America and was widely used in Native American Indian cookery for thickening soups and stews. Also known as the hickory nut, pecans are now more commonly added to salads, cakes, desserts and ice-cream, and to make pecan pie; a rich, sweet mixture of syrup, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla and nuts in a buttery pastry shell.
