Vegetable Oil

Vegetable oil is the most economical type of oil, made up from either a blend of highly refined vegetable oils such as soya bean oil, corn oil, rapeseed oil, palm oil or sunflower oil, or it may simply consist of only one type of oil. The exact type of oil used in the blend may or may not be indicated on the label.

Vegetable oils are highly refined, resulting in a pale yellow coloured oil with very little flavour or aroma. The refining process also ensures that the oil has a very high smoke point which makes it a good all-purpose oil for sautéing, searing, deep-frying and baking. However, its lack of taste and aroma means that it is not a particularly good choice for salad dressings or as a condiment.
