Pane Casalingua
Also known as Italian village bread, pane casalingua (meaning 'home-baked bread) is an everyday Italian household bread prepared using a starter dough made with white bread flour (or sometimes other varieties), milk and malt extract. The dough may be formed in a range of different shapes, depending on the Italian region in which the bread is made. Once baked, pane casalingua has an open crumb with a crispy, chewy crust.
