Galette

A galette is a flat, round bread or cake originating in France made with flaky pastry dough, yeast dough or unleavened dough. The bread or pastry is either topped with savoury ingredients, such as meat, vegetables or cheese, or with jam, nuts or fruit to create a sweet dish.

A popular variety of galette, known as Galette des Rois (the King's cake) is served during Twelfth Night festivities held on January 6. The cake contains a bean or other token (known as une fève), with the aim of bringing good luck to the person who finds it.

Galette may also be used as a term to describe a type of pancake from the French region of Brittany.
