Frying Pans

Frying pans are used for frying, searing and browning foods and consist of a wide-based flat base and flared sides. They are typically made from a metal such as aluminium, copper or stainless-steel treated with a non-stick coating such as Teflon, or from bare cast iron.

Cast-iron pans can be heated to a much higher temperature than Teflon-coated pans, and so are excellent for cooking foods such as steaks and lamb. More delicate food, such as fish, is usually better fried in a non-stick pan.

It's a good idea to invest in a good quality cast-iron pan as well as a cheaper non-stick frying pan. With proper care, the cast iron pan will probably last a lifetime, whilst you will probably have to replace the non-stick pan every few years.
